Last week Governor Kulongoski gave notice he was considering vetoing two bills relating to Oregon's commitment to clean energy: HB 2940 and HB 2472.
House Bill 2940, which we have requested he veto (see veto letter), undermines the law legislators passed in 2007 to create 25% of Oregon's energy by 2025 from new renewable sources. The bill counts old, pre-1995 biomass plants as new renewable energy, which means less new clean energy, and a step back from energy independence.
We applaud the Governor's commitment to a clean energy future, and urge him to move forward in stopping the rollbacks.
