Meet Hanten Day OLCV's Endorsed Candidate for Oregon Representative in HD 19.
I am running for House Seat 19 because I believe we deserve a leader who is in step with Oregon’s values, and will work hard to make sure your values are best represented in Salem.
Representative Kevin Cameron (R - Salem, Aumsville and Turner) is out of step with voters. He voted no on the majority of the pro-environment legislation in the 2007 Legislative Session. Last year, Cameron scored an unacceptable 45% on OLCV’s environmental scorecard and an embarrassing 12% in 2005. He even voted against the landmark legislation that catapults Oregon into a national leadership position in the production of renewable energy (SB 838). If that weren’t enough, he voted against expanding health care coverage for Oregonians, against nutritional standards in schools, against reigning in payday loans ("Shark Loans"), and against a proposal to stop price gauging. And last February, he even voted no to pulling toxic toys off the shelf. His record tells the story. Cameron is out of step with voters and he’s out of step with Oregon’s values.
That is why I am running. My name is Hanten Day and I believe I can best represent your values in Salem: working responsibly to keep our children safe and healthy while protecting Oregon’s legacy for future generations.
Most folks understood Ballot Measure 49 (M49) to be a good compromise to Measure 37, the flawed land use law that passed in 2004. M49 was supported by a wide variety of organizations, interest groups and the majority of voters as the best option to protect our irreplaceable farmland from the reckless development allowed under Measure 37. So why did Cameron try to prevent voters from having their say by voting against the bill that referred M 49 to the voters?
I am running because I do not believe Cameron was taking our views into consideration when he voted against M49 or when he voted against keeping Oregon healthy and beautiful by voting no on the dozens of other pieces of pro-environment legislation presented before him in 2007 and 2005. I am running because he has shown us no evidence that he is the best choice to represent our values in 2009.
Cameron is out of touch with voters. The evidence is in his voting record. If elected, I will vote to protect Oregon’s air, water, farms and forests. I am committed to responsible leadership and will do what I can to keep Oregon healthy and our environmental legacy strong. It's time for a change.
Please vote Hanten Day to truly represent you. Visit voteHD.com to support my campaign.

Hanten Day is a welcome change to the incumbent politician, Kevin Cameron. Day will help protect our shared interest in keeping Oregon beautiful. Unfortunately, Cameron has amassed a war chest with thousands of dollars from special interest groups. We can't expect Day to win without our financial support. I've given my $20, what about you? His website, where you can contribute, is at http://www.votehd.com
